I came into triathlons only 6 years ago, but quickly got hooked! Like many of us, I started with olympic distance, building to 70.3 and 140.6. In many ways I am still learning and improving with each and every race.
Our family is all about sports. My partner Ellen is an Elite Team Wattie Ink member, and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford. We train together, including both getting up at 5am nearly every day to get a workout in before our two boys (12/14) wake up and need to prepare for school. We do all IM (and marathons) races together, although Kona this year was an exception where she qualified and I unfortunately did not. Of course we joined her in Kona for the weekend to cheer her on! The boys play club soccer, so every weekend we can be found at the field for games, tournaments, etc. I was team manager for one of their teams for a few years, and, separately, ran a futsal team in a competitive league for the boys in winter months to maintain fitness. In summary, a busy and super active family life.
I am a principal scientist at an Artificial Intelligence/Drug Discovery startup in San Francisco, and an Associate Adjunct Professor of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco.
I am currently on Team Zoot.
