October 09, 2019 - 34 riders started the 200 mile version (there was a 150 mile option as well), and only 10 of us finished. I ended up 4th place Open Men.
This was my first time racing in a self-supported format. Racers were alone in navigating 200 miles of backcountry dirt roads and had to resupply water at convenience stores or local farmers along the route. No other outside support was allowed. There was a 40 minute delay to the start as we waited for a line of thunderstomrs with lightening to pass. Then we learned there was a second line of thunderstorms passing over the route, resulting in 4+ hours of a heavy downpour. Once farmer bailed me out of a pinch after I had been out of water for over an hour. This race was both charming and difficult. 34 riders started the 200 version (there was a 150 option as well), and only 10 of us finished. I ended up 4th place Open Men.
