April 22, 2019 - My first time placing in a race
Although this was just a Sprint Triathlon - it was teh first time I have gotted to teh podium in an event. Not that 2nd place out of 5 competetiors in my age group is all that much to brag about, but it was a big confidence booster for me going into my next race (70.3) in Williamsburg. The out-season training and work put in paid some dividends.
Rumpus in the Bumpass, run by Kinetic Multisports was a very well run race. The had to manage both th eolympic and Sprint distances on the same day due to Easter SUnday but they did so in a very well organized manner.
Water temps were about 63 degrees at race start but the winds were high and gusty.....Finished the swim a lot slower than I had hoped but did better than the last couple races....made up some time on the bike course....some rolling hills that made for a fact course. tranistion tiems were down but still slower than i had hoped. Thge run was a good rolling hill run but the start/finish area is a wooded (muddy) mess.
All in all I finished strong and had a good season opener. Now it is on to Ironman Williamsburg.
