July 04, 2019 - A successful day in Lubbock Texas on the new 70.3 course! 1st in my AG (50-54), 6th overall female, and a Lubbock PR at 4:56.
As is typical for past Buffalo Springs Lake 70.3 races (this was my 5th visit over the past 20 years of racing), the swim was nice and warm (or shall I say HOT!). There were some nice little cold springs bubbling up here and there in the lake that allowed a safe 70 degree temperature recording on race morning to allow wetsuits, but it felt a bit more like 80 degrees. Lovely swim course otherwise with a pleasant rolling start.
The bike is my wheelhouse, especially with my ENVE SES 7.8 speedy wheelset. I had a fabulous bike with the top bike split in my age group (and several others) that put me in great position starting the run.
Things started to warm up on the run, but I made the most of the ice and cold water and gatorade. I actually felt better at mile 9 than at miles 1-8 which was a pretty nice feeling. Crossed the line in sub 5 hours and added another buffalo statue to my collection!
